How to Heal Chapped and Cracked Lips?
Dry and chapped lips can pose a challenge at any time of the year. Whether it’s the cold air sun exposure, or certain cosmetic products, various factors can contribute to flaking lips.
The skin on our lips differs in structure from the rest of our face; it's notably thinner and more delicate, making it particularly sensitive to external factors. By giving your lips the care they deserve and integrating lip care into your daily routine, you can prevent the discomfort associated with chapped lips.
Don’t lick your lips: Avoid the temptation to chew or lick dry lips, as saliva evaporation can exacerbate dryness. Refrain from picking at them as well, as this will only cause further irritation and delay the healing process.
Exfoliate: By gently exfoliating any flakes and dead skin, not only will this enhance the appearance of dry lips and increase blood flow, but it also allows your lips to better absorb the treatment products.
Sleep with a humidifier: A humidifier is a useful device for increasing moisture levels in the air, effectively preventing dryness. Skin naturally loses water content in dry environments but can retain hydration more effectively in humid one. For mouth breathers, this can lead to dry lips, and a humidifier can help reduce congestion in the nasal passages, making it easier to breathe through your nose.
Use a lip treatment: Search for lip treatments that contain soothing, healing, and moisturizing ingredients, avoiding fragrances or flavourings that can irritate dry, chapped lips. Throughout the day, reapply every two hours since our mouths are constantly in motion, causing the product to be absorbed more quickly and wear off faster.
Protect your lips with SPF: Even during winter, it's crucial to shield your lips from the sun. Dry, chapped lips are more susceptible to sunburn.
By following these tips, you should see noticeable improvement. To prevent your lips from chapping again, continue applying lip balm whenever they feel dry, whether you're indoors or outdoors.
